Tis the merry month of May, Sinners, and we are bringing you quite a dramatic range of taste bud tinglers this month! With everything from blueberries to peppers to coconut, your “Spoonfuls” this month are as delightful as they are delicious!
The bakers of these delights are Mary and David Supley Foxworth, coowners of MallowDrama — featuring “desserts with a dramatic flair.” Mary and David began casually cooking together, throwing parties for friends. So popular were their tasty meals and baked goods that they eventually went into business — and marriage! Along the way they attended various cooking classes such as those at L’academie de Cuisine in Maryland and received various awards. Mary won awards for her cakes in 2002 and 2003, and David received a Corcoran Gold Key award in 1990.
Both enjoy the creative, artistic side of things at MallowDrama. Mary says she particularly loves working with customers from conception of an idea through the design process to delivery of the yummy and perfect collaborative creation. This dynamic duo has a special philosophy that’s worth noting. As vegetarians with a sense of social responsibility, they use products from local sources whenever possible and organic dairy and eggs. They feel that this produces a higher quality product — one that is good for the environment, good for the community, and good for the health of the customer. As Mary puts it, “It’s the way we cook — whether for ourselves or for someone else.”
May’s Spoonfuls of Sin this month are prepared for you by MallowDrama of Reston, Virginia. For further information on their repertoire, please visit their website at www.MallowDrama.com.
First, we have a very special chocolate cupcake called Ole’ Mole’. Inspired by traditional mole’ recipes, this chocolate cupcake is made with ground ancho peppers, pepitas and cinnamon, then topped with a cinnamon ganache. Different? Yes. Good? Oh, YES! (We mean, OLE’!)
Next, MallowDrama has prepared for you four (yes, four!) of their special-recipe blueberry oatmeal cookies. Yummy! Anybody can throw chocolate chips in a cookie recipe, but who would think of blueberries? Exactly! There’s that dramatic flair showing up again, and we’re betting you’re going to love it!
Betcha thought you weren’t going to get any gooey chocolate this time around, huh? Now would we do that to you?! Of course not! MallowDrama has prepared two truffle selections for you — an Orange Zest and a Toasted Coconut! The Orange Zest has a dark chocolate center, enrobed in white chocolate with that hint of orange zing. Mmm. Two kinds of chocolate, plus orange. You’d better lie down. The Toasted Coconut truffle has a milk chocolate ganache and toasted coconut inside, covered in bittersweet chocolate and more toasted coconut outside. You may never get up!
